Welcome Back to our 2022-2023 School Year! This year we again invite you to COME EXPLORE WITH US! Our staff has been working tirelessly to prepare for another wonderful school year. We have hired several new staff, and been very fortunate with our new hires. With new teams, comes new energy and we are already feeling it in our classrooms.

Our building is feel fresh and new with new carpeting throughout our hallways, fresh paint on walls and updated electrical, lighting and presenting connections throughout our classrooms. We will have new furniture in our office area and even had an update to our staff lounge as our PTA bought us a new refrigerator with an ice maker! This, I know will make our teachers and staff happy this year! Our facility manager and custodial staff have worked tirelessly to support the external construction crews, move all furniture around to make room for the work, and do the million other things that are necessary to get classrooms and our school grounds ready!

Another change you might notice is in the entrance to our school. Our district is working to update the secure entrances to all schools. We received ours this summer. Now, instead of one locked door, there are two. This shouldn't be a problem, as we always have asked visitors to check in at the main office. Now, you just have to and if you are coming to visit, volunteer, or come to our office, we will buzz you through. We will still need all visitors to sign in and get a visitor's badge before entering. We are excited to see our volunteers and families throughout our school once again!

As we focus on "EXPLORING", we continue our efforts around NURTURING, ENGAGING AND INNOVATING to meet the needs of our whole WJES community- students, staff, families and the greater community. We are passionate about our CREW time each day where we focus on strengthening students' Habits of Character and building a strong classroom community of learners.

We are also doubling down on our EXPEDITIONS this year. Teachers have been working to create authentic learning experiences within their classrooms as well as beyond our classroom doors. We are committed to connecting our students in meaningful ways with our school grounds, our local community, and the greater Conifer and Colorado community through partnerships with parks, other recreation areas, museums, businesses and all aspects of being a part of a greater community. Last year we had over 100 community connections across all grade levels and covering many topics of great interest to our students. We hope to continue this as a strength at our school.

We have seen our students rebounding from Covid Learning Loss, and we are continuing to focus our efforts on knowing each students' name, strength and need and creating robust plans to meet these needs. At WJES we are very committed to supporting growth in ALL of our students. We have rebuilt and strengthened our structures and supports to guarantee no students are slipping through the cracks. We are sealing up the cracks! Our teachers have engaged in learning over the summer as they do throughout the school year to continually increase our culture of instructional excellence, improve the student experience, and ensure a safe and welcoming learning environment.

We are excited about our plans and already making great movements toward realizing them. With our small class sizes and amazing teaching and support staff, we are feeling confident we can reach new levels. If you are interested in learning more, please reach out via email or phone to set up a time to meet.
